Housing for Players
Players coming to Charleston from out of town are responsible for arranging their own summer housing, and we recommend securing it as early as possible.

To help, CCL also keeps a host family pool. When you apply, let us know if you'd like to be considered for a host family. As local families become available, we match them with players in the pool on a first-come, first-served basis. Host family placements are not guaranteed, so we encourage every player to have their own housing plan.

Planning for Summer Housing in Charleston
Charleston is one of the most popular summer destinations in the country, and its rental market reflects that. Summer is peak travel season, so short-term rentals book up early and cost more than in a typical college town, and many apartments only offer year-long leases.

The good news is that players who plan ahead usually find good options. A few tips:

• Start early. The best summer options are often gone by spring.
• Stay with family or friends. If you know anyone in the Charleston area, ask early. It's often the easiest and most affordable option.
• Look for summer sublets. Local college students often sublet their apartments while they're away for the summer.
• Split costs with teammates. Sharing a rental with other CCL players is one of the most affordable ways to live in Charleston for the season. Once you're accepted, we can help connect you with other players looking for roommates.
• Look beyond downtown. Areas like West Ashley, James Island, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and Summerville can offer more options. Check the drive to game sites before you commit.
• Join the host family pool, too. It's a great option when available, and you can be in the pool while making your own plans.

Host Family Pool: How It Works

1. Select "I need a host family" on your player application.
2. Once you're accepted, you're added to the host family pool.
3. As host families become available, we match them with players in the order they joined the pool.
4. If we find a match, we'll introduce you to the family and confirm the details.

How to Become a Host Family

BECOME A HOST FAMILY
The Charleston Collegiate League is seeking host families to support college baseball and softball players during our summer season in Charleston. Hosting a player is a meaningful way to support young athletes while becoming part of a growing local sports community.

Many of our host families are baseball and softball fans, parents of athletes, or community members who enjoy being involved in something positive and local. Hosting lets families play a small but important role in a player's summer experience.

WHY HOST FAMILIES ARE IMPORTANT
Each summer, college players from programs across the country come to Charleston to compete, train, and keep developing their game. Being away from home for an extended period can be challenging, and having a stable place to live makes a significant difference, especially in a city where summer housing is in high demand.

Host families provide:

• A safe and supportive home environment
• Stability during a busy summer schedule
• A connection to the Charleston community

This support lets players focus on their game, training, and personal growth while fully enjoying their time in the city.

SEASON DATES AND HOSTING COMMITMENT
The 2027 CCL season runs from June 1 through July 15. We are seeking host families who can commit to housing a player for the full season.

Host families provide a private bedroom and bed, along with access to a bathroom, kitchen, and laundry. We thoughtfully match players with families based on location, availability, and household preferences, including whether you'd prefer to host a baseball or softball player.

WHAT HOST FAMILIES RECEIVE
As a thank you for your support, host families receive:

• Two season tickets to CCL games
• Team and league gear
• Invitations to league events throughout the season

Host families also become part of a close-knit group that supports college athletes during an important stage of their development.

ABOUT THE CHARLESTON COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
The Charleston Collegiate League was created to give college athletes a better summer experience. Home to CCL Baseball and CCL Softball, the league is run by a former college and professional baseball player who understands what athletes need during the summer months. Having experienced the demands of collegiate and professional baseball firsthand, our founder built this league to prioritize player development, consistency, and overall quality of life during the season.

By limiting travel and keeping games local, players can maintain training routines, recover properly, and spend more time on development rather than long road trips. Just as important, the league was designed to connect players with the Charleston community so they feel invested in where they're playing.

Our long-term goal is to grow a sustainable, player-first collegiate summer league that becomes a valued part of Charleston's sports culture and a league players are proud to be part of.
