Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Charleston Collegiate League?
CCL is a collegiate summer league based in Charleston, South Carolina, home to CCL Baseball and CCL Softball. College athletes compete in a structured summer season from June 1 to July 15, with a 24-game regular-season schedule plus a league championship.

What can I expect from a summer in CCL?
Competitive games and the live reps you need. Teams play three to four games per week, and every team is led by coaches with collegiate and professional backgrounds. Every game is live streamed, so your college coaches and family can watch from anywhere, and you’ll get full league statistics to share with your college program.

Where are games played?
Every game is played at local fields in the Charleston area. There is no overnight travel, so players spend their summer on reps, training, and recovery instead of on the road.

Do I need a car?
We strongly recommend it. Game sites are spread across the Charleston area and you will want to explore all that Charleston has to offer.

How big are rosters?
Baseball rosters are limited to 28 players and softball rosters to 18, across four teams in each sport.

Who can play?
Current college players at any level (Division I, II, III, NAIA, and JUCO), graduating high school seniors committed to a college program, and transfer athletes preparing for their next program.

How do I apply?
Complete the Baseball or Softball application on our website. Roster spots are filled on a rolling basis, so we encourage players to apply early.

What happens after I apply?
You’ll receive a confirmation email right away. We review your application, may reach out to your college coach, and then contact you personally to talk about fit, your summer availability, and housing. Accepted players receive their player agreement and payment details.

How are teams picked?
Every accepted player is guaranteed a spot on a team. Accepted players are placed in a player pool, and once we know the full pool and its positions, league administration and coaches draft balanced, competitive teams during the first week of May. After the draft, you’ll be notified of your team, and your coaches will begin meeting with the team virtually ahead of the season. Players may request a teammate or team, and we’ll consider every request, though placements aren’t guaranteed.

How much does it cost?
$1,500 for position players and $800 for pitchers only, the same for baseball and softball. Fees include custom uniforms and team gear, live-streamed games, and full league statistics.

When do I pay?
Only after you’re accepted. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your roster spot, and your remaining balance and payment deadline are included with your acceptance. You’re also welcome to pay in full at that time.

What’s the refund policy?
The $500 deposit is non-refundable. If you withdraw within 7 days of paying your full player fee, you’ll be refunded everything except the deposit. After 7 days, fees are non-refundable.

Are there ways to help cover fees?
Yes. Accepted players can opt in to our player fundraiser or find a local business to serve as their player sponsor.

Is housing provided?
Housing isn’t included in the player fee, and players are responsible for their own summer housing. CCL also keeps a host family pool, and placements are made first come, first served as families become available. Placement isn’t guaranteed.

How do I find housing in Charleston?
Start early, since summer is peak season in Charleston. Common options for CCL players include:

Short-term rentals like Airbnb or Vrbo, which are most affordable when shared with other CCL players

Extended-stay hotels, many of which offer weekly or monthly rates

Summer sublets from local college students who are away for the summer

Staying with family or friends in the Charleston area

The CCL host family pool: select “I need a host family” on your application to join

Is softball new?
Yes. CCL Baseball enters its third season in 2027, and CCL Softball launches its inaugural season the same summer, with the same schedule and structure.
